BELLRINGING AT GREENWICH, ST. JOHN'S DEPTFORD & WOOLWICH
We are bellringers who ring at three churches in Greenwich, Deptford and Woolwich.
For some years now, we have been a joint band which meets once a week, usually, on a Wednesday, and occasionally for Sunday service ringing. Several of our members are unavailable on Sundays due to other commitments (for example, one is an organist and others have other responsibilities at other churches). However, we do try to ring for some services, especially if we can encourage others to join us.
We are not a highly advanced band but we do aim to have good striking and good bell control.
Our practice nights usually consist of the following:
Rounds and call changes on 5,6 or 7 with tenor behind; occasionally on 10
Plain hunt on 5 bells, with tenor covering,Plain Bob Doubles, Grandsire Doubles - occasionally Stedman and others such as April Day, St Simons etc.
Occasionally, we manage some Minor and Triples or Plain Hunt on 7. We have recently started some simple Treble Bob work.
New members are always welcome.
We are also very pleased to welcome any visitors to our practices.
We would like to think that we are a hospitable and welcoming group - we go to a local pub, The Ashburnham Arms, for refreshments after practices! There is good beer, drinks and nibbles to go along with conversation and putting the world to rights!!!
